For those who find traditional talk therapy limiting, I bring both an artistic and active lens to my practice. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, I view therapy as a creative, individualized process.
With a background in Special Education and Art Education, I integrate DBT skills for emotional regulation, Attachment Theory to understand relationships, and basic neuroscience to help clients map their nervous system. My practice is deeply rooted in somatic mindfulness, because when you understand the why behind your brain and body's reactions, you gain real control over your general outlook and behaviors.
I show up to sessions as my authentic self, a queer, white therapist committed to anti-racism and cultural humility. Your identities are not just accepted in our work together, but celebrated and understood within the larger context of your life. I have experience working with anxiety, depressive disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD and ASD.
My work draws from DBT, Attachment Theory, somatic mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. I also pull from my training in neuroscience, helping clients understand how their nervous system works so they can work with it, not against it. My background in art and special education means I'm comfortable finding unconventional entry points when traditional approaches aren't landing.
Emerson is a strong fit for clients who feel like they haven't quite found their footing in therapy yet, people who want something more active, more embodied, or more honest about how their brain actually works.
Sessions with Emerson are active, curious, and often unexpected. Expect to be engaged, not just listened to.
